Arc Size

The measurement of the canopy size. This measurement is taken by measuring the top of the canopy from one point to the other when opened.

Automatic Close

The function of an umbrella which enables the user to release the canopy from the open position by pushing the button on the handle to allow it to be closed.

Automatic Open

The function of an umbrella which enables the user to open the umbrella by the push of a button on the handle. If you umbrella is auto open only, it will not have arrows on the button itself.

Auto Open and Close Button

The button on the handle used to automatically open the umbrella and then push the button after use to allow the umbrella to release for close. If your umbrella has this function is will have a double arrow.

Blue Line

An umbrella line for men, that has specially designed handles, that are extended in length to accommodate a larger hand.

Bubble

A style of a stick umbrella, usually made from a see through material with the canopy in the shape of a dome.

Canopy

The fabric portion of the umbrella that covers and is connected to the skeleton or frame of the umbrella. Typically this is made of polyester or nylon fabric.

Carabiner

Small clip used to attach umbrella to a belt loop.

Case or Sleeve

Also referred to as the cover or sleeve. This is the fabric piece that is manufactured to cover your umbrella when it is closed and not in use. NOT ALL UMBRELLAS COME WITH THIS FEATURE.

Chromatics

Weather products made by totes for inclement weater, including footwear and umbrellas.

Clip

Umbrella with a handy sleeve or umbrella pouch that contains a clip.

Ferrule

The tip of the umbrella that is positioned at the top of the canopy shaft.

Fiberglass

Is the common name for glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) or alternatively glass-fiber reinforced plastic.

Folding Umbrella

Umbrella thats shaft extends and collapses to allow for a more compact fit for storage and carrying.

Gift Umbrella

Small umbrella packaged in a gift box for easy gift-giving.

Golf Stick

Umbrella that remains the same length when opened and closed, has a rubber handle.

Gripster

Kids umbrella, made with kid friendly materials.

Handle

This part of the umbrella is also known as the grip of the umbrella. It is the section of the umbrella that the user holds in hand while utilizing the umbrella.

Light n' Go

A umbrella that has a built in flashlight in the bottom of the umbrella handle.

Lightweight

A umbrella built to be portable and lightweight

Micro 'brella

Small umbrella designed for sudden showers, may fit is small spaces for travel and everyday use.

Mini 'brella

Small umbrella designed for sudden showers, designed specifically to fit in small spaces for travel and everyday use.

Non-vented

A non-vented canopy is marked by a canopy with a single layer of fabric.

Reflective tape

Reflective borders on the outer portion of umbrella canopy for safety.

Ribs

Skeletal structure of the canopy of the umbrella. Most ribs are formed from metal or fiberglass.

Runner

The portion of the umbrella frame that slides up and down the shaft. This allows the umbrella to lock in the open and close positions.

Scotchgard™

A coating repels spills and stains from fabric and upholstery.

Shaft

The pole that connects the handle to the frame and canopy. Normally made from metal or fiberglass.

Sleeve
